Earth Science Assistant Position

The Canadian Rockies Earth Science Resource Centre (www.CRESRC.ca) is looking for a university geoscience student with at least three years of university geoscience training. As the position is partially funded by the 2018 Canada Summer Jobs program, the student must have been in a full course of study in geoscience this last year and also continuing in the Fall. The renumeration is $18.50/hour for 35 hours a week Wednesday to Sunday. The student must be Canadian, between the ages of 15 and 30 (see * below or the CSJ website).

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Interacting with the ‘general public’ in the geoscience exhibition area (the ‘general public’ refers to tourists and to members of the community, and may include persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, Aboriginal peoples, members of a visible minority and seniors).
  • Presenting geoscience outreach to the general public, including programs focused on children.
  • Assisting with scheduled summer events and programs.
  • Becoming familiar with computer software, including specialized geological / geophysical software (i.e. Accumap).
  • Assisting with maintaining current geoscience exhibits and the creation of new geoscience exhibits.
  • Documenting items in the geoscience library and keeping it organized.
  • Assisting with the over-all presentation of the facility to the public.

The position opportunity will be open until June 7, 2018 or until a suitable candidate is found which ever is later. Employment could start as early as June 9 and last until the end of August. – is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*Foreign students are not eligible.
